48-Hour Girls’ Getaway in Northumberland | Luxury Stay

Plan the perfect girls’ getaway in Northumberland with this 48-hour itinerary featuring scenic walks, food spots, wellness experiences and luxury stay.

The Perfect 48-Hour Girls’ Getaway in Northumberland Luxury Stays!

Northumberland has quietly become one of the UK’s best destinations for a girls’ getaway weekend. With endless coastline, charming market towns, historic castles, scenic walking routes, and cosy places to eat, it offers the perfect mix of adventure and downtime.

For their second girls’ trip to Northumberland, Ann and her girlfriends returned to stay at The Galloway, one of the five luxury stays by Northumberland Luxury Stays, and planned a slightly different itinerary this time around blending scenic walks, great food, wellness, and cosy nights in.

If you’re planning a girls’ getaway in Northumberland, here’s an itinerary worth stealing.

Friday: Scenic Walks, Afternoon Tea & A Cosy Check-In

Before checking into their accommodation, the group made a scenic stop in Amble, one of Northumberland’s most loved seaside towns.

Known as “the friendliest port”, Amble is filled with independent shops, harbour views, art installations, and easy walking routes.

Walk from Amble to Warkworth

The girls started with a scenic walk-through Amble, stopping to admire the Amble Art Trail Bord Walk sculptures along the way. From there, they continued towards Warkworth, with the iconic Warkworth Castle gradually appearing in the distance.

Lunch at Bertram’s

For lunch, they stopped at Bertram’s, a popular café known for brunch dishes, homemade cakes, and artisan coffee. Its cosy interiors make it an ideal first stop for catchups over lunch.

Check-In at The Galloway

Afterwards, it was time to head to The Galloway in West Chevington for check-in.

To make arrival feel extra special, the girls set up afternoon tea featuring pastries and sweet treats from The Running Fox, an award-winning Northumberland bakery known for afternoon teas, cakes, and baked goods. With fizz poured and sweet treats ready (Ann brought the cake stands from home!), the girls settled in. It was a cosy first evening. Later, they unwound in the hot tub.

The Galloway was everything we needed for a girls weekend away. From the moment we arrived, it felt bright, spacious, and instantly relaxing. It was the kind of place where you can drop your bags and unwind.

We spent most of our time in the open-plan living space. We caught up on the sofas. We got ready together. We opened the bifold doors to the garden and hot tub area. The balcony was perfect for slow morning coffees and a bit of fresh air before the day got going.

With four really comfortable bedrooms, there was plenty of space for everyone to get ready and have their own space too. The Galloway made it easy to spend time together and still feel calm and private.

It was the perfect base for a chilled, fun girls weekend in Northumberland.

Saturday: Alnwick Adventures, Drinks & A Relaxed Evening

Saturday was all about scenic exploring, good food, and a slower-paced evening.

Morning Walk at Hulne Park

The girls headed to Alnwick for a 6.2-mile circular walk around Hulne Park.

This private estate, owned by the Duke of Northumberland, is one of the area’s hidden gems. The route offers woodland trails, open countryside, and peaceful paths leading to Hulne Abbey, a 13th-century Carmelite monastery ruin.

After the walk, they returned to Alnwick town for a well-deserved cuppa. The girls headed to Alnwick for a 6.2-mile circular walk around Hulne Park.

Drinks at The Dirty Bottles

Next stop: The Dirty Bottles, one of Alnwick’s most iconic historic pubs.

It’s famous for its intriguing window display of bottles left untouched for centuries due to a local death-curse legend.

Dinner at The Cook and Barker Inn

Later, they headed to The Cook and Barker Inn for dinner.

Located just outside Alnwick, this countryside inn is known for hearty seasonal dishes, classic British food, and a cosy atmosphere.

Back at The Galloway, the evening was kept simple with games, chats, and time to properly unwind.

Sunday: Sea Views, Sauna Sessions & Coastal Wellness

For their final day, Ann and the girls headed back towards the coast to explore Newbiggin-by-the-Sea.

Visit The Couple Sculpture

They stopped to capture photos of The Couple (also known as Ebb & Flo), the striking 5-metre-tall bronze sculpture by artist Sean Henry, installed in 2007 at the end of the town’s breakwater.

The piece features a man and woman standing together, quietly gazing out to sea from a steel plinth.

Nearby, they also visited the Land Couple, which is a smaller, interactive version of the larger "Couple" sculpture. Positioned onshore, the Land Couple appear to gaze out towards their larger counterparts at sea.

Wellness at Café Needles Eye

To make the final day feel a little different, Ann and the girls booked a wellness experience at Café Needles Eye.

Located right on the seafront, this independent venue offers food, coffee, sea views, and access to sauna sessions alongside cold-water sea dips. It has become increasingly popular among visitors looking for wellness experiences in Northumberland.

Ice Cream at Caffè Bertorelli

Before heading home, they stopped at Caffè Bertorelli for ice cream.

This family-run Italian café is a local favourite for gelato ice-cream. Ice creams in hand, they enjoyed one final walk along the promenade before wrapping up the trip.
